ARBITRATION BILL
MANY CHANGES PENDING
CANBERRA, April 23. The Government will make 54 amendments, to the Arbitration Bill when it reaches the committee stages in the House of Representatives. The Attorney-General, Dr. H. y. Evatt, lias circulated to members a list of amendments, most of which are corrections of the wording or minor alterations. None provides any new power for enforcing penalties 'or a court or conciliation commissioners. The original bill provided for the appointment of conciliation commissioners with wide judicial powers. The amendment provides for the appointment by Governor-General of a Chief Commissioner, who will organise and allocate the work of the others and prepare an annual report to the Attorney-General on the working of the Act.
