STREET LIGHTING
INQUIRY BY COUNCIL CHANGE OF HOURS Inquiries are to be made by .the Gisborne Borough Council from the Poverty Bay Power Board as to whether it would be possible to have street lighting in the borough on from 9.30 p.m. to 10.30 and switched off for two hours in the early morning.
Correspondence from the board regarding the cut-off's of street lighting was received at last evening’s meeting of the council. The communications stated that street lights were turned on from 7 p.m. to midnight and 3 a.m. to 5 a.m. The advertised cuts for domestic lighting also applied to street lights, however, Mr. G. J. Jeune was of the opinion that it would be much better if the street lights remained on from 9.30 p.m. to 10.30 p.m. and were turned off in tlie early morning.
Members were agreed that . the Power Board was doing all possible to assist residents.
It was decided, on the motion of Mr. Jeune, seconded by Dr. A. L. Singer, that the executive officers of the council lake up with the Power Board, the question of turning street lights on during the cut from 9.30 p.m. to 10.30 p.m. and turn them off between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m.
