RUGBY PROTEST
COUNCIL APPOINTMENTS "TASK OF DELEGATES” (P.A.) NEW PLYMOUTH. March 26. The appointment of delegates to the Rugby conference in London bv the council of the. New Zealand Rugby Union instead of by a conference of New Zealand Rugby delegates is to be the subject of a protest by the Taranaki Rugby Union, according to a decision made by the management committee at Stratford last night. Mr C. Brown said that on the day following the council meeting a conference of delegates was held. Despite this, however, the council appointed the London delegates and also conducted other business that should have been left to the delegates’ conference. The chairman, Mr J. S. Hickey, said the Fiji tour was among such matters arranged bv the council. At the delegates’ conference a delegate who was considerably affected by the tour protested. He was told that there was no point in protesting because the tour had already been arranged. Members of the management committee referred to previous occasions on which the council had conducted business that they considered should have been left to later meetings. One year, it was stated, the selectors were appointed bv the council at a meeting immediately before the annual meeting of the council. _____
