BRISBANE SQUATTERS
PITCHED BATTLE AVERTED (9 a.m.) BRISBANE. Jan. 29. When 10 families assisted by the Communist Party moved into part of the R.A.A.F. station at Victoria Park, which is still occupied by W.A.A.F.’s, a pitched battle with R.A.A.F. personnel was narrowly averted. They were told to leave because there were still more than 20 servicewomen in the compound. There was a tussle when officers tried to eject the squatters. The dispute was finally settled when the families agreed to move to other huts.
