GOOD ANGLING

LAKE REPORTS PROMISING SEASON WELL-CONDITIONED FISH (P.A.) ROTORUA. Dec. 21. Although few fishermen have been out in the last fortnight reports indicate that the fish are in good condition, stated the conservator of fish and game in Rotorua, Mr. S. MacNamara. From Ohau Channel, in the Rotorua district, come reports of a good number of well-conditioned fish, and the eastern end of Lake Rotoiti has also yielded good catches to trolling parties. Fly fishing at the outlet of streams is not particularly good at the moment, although the small catches that have been made were all in reasonably fair condition. Few Anglers at Taupo A similar lack of anglers is reported from the Taupo district, where the best fishing appears to have been in the Western Bay area. Launch owners state that catches should be excellent a little later as the majority of the fish landed were in good condition. A. few fish have been caught on the fly at Pye’s camp. ..O”

At Tokaanu trolling at Stump Baybas been particularly good, and some beautiful trout have been landed. The Kuratau and Tokaanu Bay areas have also yielded good sport and trolling. Mopuopa Bay. and in the vicinity of the Tauranga-Taupo stream had been equally good. Fishing at Delta Bay has so far proved only fair, although the fish landed here have been in wonderful condition. Considering that the sport is never at its best in these areas at this time of the year, said Mr. MacNamara, the re-1 suits were encouraging. , A GoSd Sport in Whakatane Area Trolling at the southern end of Lake Taupo has been all that could be desired and anglers should find this area particularly prolific a little later on. From Whakatane come reports of a great number of small fish, all in excellent condition. There have been few anglers fishing in that district lately, but it is expected that the sport should also improve greatly in the near future.

Some nice catches have been made at Waikaremoana, fish up to 61b. having been landed on the troll, and conditions there also augur well for a good season. -
