DAILY REST PAUSES
CLAIM BY RAILWAYMEN (P.A.) WELLINGTON. Dec 10. “The observance of two daily rest pauses is a rapidly-growing industrial practice.” said Mr. T. F. Gcbpic before the Railway Tribunal when asking on behalf of the four industrial organisations within the railway service that this provision be incorporated in the railway conditions. ITc instanced the plumbers as having recently obtained this concession as an award condition. Mr. Gebbie said railway workers because of the recommendation of the commission to this effect in 1945 had hoped to be among the first to enjoy an official blessing upon the two daily rest pauses, but the tribunal ordered the institution of one only because of difficulties in its general application. Now railway workers hoped not to be among the last to receive this concession. The tribunal reserved its decision.
