A £SOOO a year appointment'is going begging, but is one of the toughest jobs in Australia—chairmanship of the Coal Board.
Despite an intensive four month? search, the Commonwealth Government has been unable to find an aceptnblc authority willing to assume responsibility. The Prime Minister. Mr. J. B. Chiefly, has admitted that the Government is still having the greatest difficulty in finding a suitable man. Some high-ranking public servants who would normally rush a £SOOO a year job are believed to have shied of! when told that it was the Coal Board chairmanship. Mr. Chiefly said there had been plenty of applicants, but none measured up to requirements. The present coal commissioner, Mr. H. L. Williams, will resign when the new appointment is made.
