SCHOONER WRECKED
GREAT BARRIER REEF
BRISBANE. Dec. 5
The three-masted schooner Ametco, with a cargo of fruit for Singapore, was wrecked and abandoned inside the Barrier Reef about 25 miles north of Cooktown on Friday.
The schooner piled up on a reef in a mist during a storm. The captain and the 10 members of the crew were rescued.
