ON BORDER LINE
NO CUTS THIS WEEK POWER FOR AUCKLAND (P.A.) AUCKLAND, March 23. “Although we are just on the border line, we are not going to make any cuts in power this week,” said Mr. S. J. Harbutt, chairman of the Auckland Electric-Power Board at a meeting of the board. “Last week we were 204,000 units over our quota. We are hanging on by the barest margin and if matters get any worse we may have to cut power at any time.” Information concerning the vatcr supply for the generation of power was far from encouraging, added Mr. Harbutt. He said the level of Waikaremoana was still sinking and siphons were being used there. Lake Taupo was going down every day and the dam at Mangahao, which was full last week, was now nsari/ empty. The board decided to thank the Auckland Manufacturers’ Association for its action in sending a circular to its members suggesting methods of
saving power. The circular suggested that a member of every staff should be delegated to chec*: up on the unnecessary use of lights and machines and waste of hot water.
