CONCILIATORY TONE
STALIN’S GESTURE TO UNO
WELCOMED IN AMERICA (10 a.m.) WASHINGTON. March 24. After reading a report on Generalissimo Stalin’s interview in Moscow’, President Truman said that he always knew Generalissimo Stalin intended to place his full confidence and support behind UNO.
The New York Times correspondent, Mr. James Reston. says that Generalissimo Stalin’s statement has improved the atmosphere for the Security Council meeting. It has not dissipated the sense of crisis over the Persian issue but has encouraged delegates in the belief that UNO can deal with inflammable political issues without losing the support of the Big Five. The delegates interpreted the statement as a conciliatory gesture to UNO and an attempt by Generalissimo S.talin to give UNO a better chance of success at the New York meeting.
