ROWING FIASCO

BOATS IN COLLISIONS TWO CREWS PROTEST (P.A.) WELLINGTON, March 25. Despite perfect conditions in tho harbour poor steering was responsible for the New Zealand interprovincial eight-oar rowing championships held on the Oriental Bay course on Saturday being almost a fiasco. Crews from Marlborough, Wellington, Canterbury and Wanganui started well, but three boats wero involved in collisions before any distance was rowed. Wanganui was the only boat not affected and came home an easy winner, hut Wellington protested and the umpire decided that the race rvould bavo to he rowed again.

Canterbury, who were disqualified, were given the opportunity to participate in the rerow and Marlborough, but both refused to turn out again. In tho afternoon Wanganui and Wellington fought out the race, the latter winning by the official margin of two feet. The welterweight junior eight was won by Wnnganui Union. Wellington was second, Aramoho third and Petono fourth. The race was won by a length and a half. In tho junior eights, Wanganui Union defeated Canterbury by two lengths. Star was third.
