Warm Tribute To Travellers
A warm tribute was paid by the Mayor, Mr. Cameron, to the patriotic and charitable activities of members of the United Commercial Travellers and Warehousemen's Association in welcoming the delegates to the annual conference in Dunedin yesterday. The president for .the ensuing year is Mr. V. J. S. Stewart, Auckland.—P.A. No Disease Brought Back Discussing health matters in Dunedin, Dr. G. O. Dempster, medical officer of health in the Otago district. commented that, despite reports in some quarters, there was no evidence at all that the returning troops had brought disease back with them This, he said, could be regarded as a tribute to the work of the N.Z.M.C. overseas and to the careful examination given the men when “boarding” them on their return. Dr. Dempster said that the infantile paralysis epidemic in Otago had subsided and the majority of the patients had made a good recovery. He added that from previous experience in New Zealand epidemics of this disease were to be exmected at intervals.—P.A.
