IMPORT LICENSES
EXECUTION OF ORDERS LATEST ARRANGEMENTS (PA) WELLINGTON, March 23. In a statement yesterday the acting Minister of Customs, Mr. A. H. Nordmeyer, said that because of the continued difficulty being experienced by importers in obtaining the prompt cxectuion of orders placed overseas a similar arrangement to that made in previous periods in connection with the extension, under certain conditions, of import licenses is being made for the 1945 lisenses which were made valid for imports up to June 30, 1946, in respect of firm orders placed overseas prior to November 1, 1945. Mr Nordmeyer said that where it could' be established that firm orders had been placed overseas under the 1945 license not later than November 1, 1945, and if the goods did not arrive in New Zealand by June 30. 1946, the collectors of customs might grant a 1946 license valid for imports up to December 31, 1946, provided that the 1945 license under which the goods were ordered was surrendered.
This arrangement, said the Minister, did not apply to the 1945 licenses issued in substitution for the eighth period (1944) licenses, which were valid for imports until January 31. 1946.
