BASIC SCREW THREADS
UNIFORMITY AGREED ON BRITAIN, CANADA AND U.S. XFAY YORK. March 4 Britain, America and Canada have agreed to tiie unification ol oust: screw threads. Tliis was announced .by Hie American Standards Association which pointed out that the war was a spur to tiie completion of tire agreement. Urgently needed equipment was sometimes kept out of action for months awaiting replacements because British and American screws are not interchangeable. The American thread system has a thread form with a GO-degrcc angle while the British has a 55-degree angle. There are also differences in pitch. The new basic form has a 60-degree angle and threaded products made to the new form will bo practically interchangeable with those having the same nominal diameter and pitch made to American standards. The British will have to change the angle from 55 to CO degrees for threads of all sizes.
