FIRE CONFERENCE BUSY WEEK AHEAD COMPLETE PROGRAMME , Delegates and visitors have commenced to arrive at Gisborne for tfie annual conference of the United Fire Brigades’ Association, which will r be opened here on Thursday morning The chairman will be the president of Die association. Mr. R. Henderson, superintendent of the Hastings Fire Brigade. Bv to-night the majority of the delegates and visitors from the northern fire brigades will be in Gisborne, but most of the southern delegates and visitors will not arrive until *■> morrow.
Accommodation has been provided for approximately 500 delegates and visitors. Mayor’s Civic Reception The programme is as follows: — Thursday, 9 a.m.: Conference opens at Cosmopolitan Club concert hall. 10.30 a.m.: Civic reception, the Mayor and representatives of local bodies. Afternoon: Conference resumed. Friday, 9 a.m.: Conference resumed. 8 p.m.: Dance at Fire Station. Saturday: Free Day—Bowls, tennis. 7.30 p.m.: Welcome to visitors by the Gisborne Fire Brigade at the fire station. Sunday, 10.15 a.m.: Assemble at fire station for church parade. 2 p.m.: Assemble at fire station for scenic drive through country and afternoon tea at showgrounds. Drive resumed then to Kaiti Hill and Poho-o-rawiri Hall. 8.15 p.m.: Band concert at Waikanae Beach. Monday, 8.30 a.m.: Demonstrations at Childers road reserve. 8 p.m.: Swimming carnival at Macrae Baths. At the conclusion of the carnival, supper will be served at the fire station. Tuesday, 8.30 a.m.: Demonstration continued. 8 p.m.: Boxing contest at Opera House between C. Rayner and T. Baty. Wednesday, 8.30 a.m.: Demonstrations, continued. 8 p.m.: Concert and presentation of prizes at Opera House Ladies’ Entertainment Thursday, Afternoon: Visit to Mrs. J. W. Kane’s residence at Wainui Beach for afternoon tea. Evening: Picture night. Friday, Afternoon: Afternoon tea at Waikanae beach kiosk. Evening: Dance at the fire station. Saturday, Afternoon: Croquet. Evening: Social at the Victoria League rooms.
Sunday, Afternoon: Drive around the environs of Gisborne with afternoon tea at the showgrounds. Evening: Band concert at Waikanae Beach. Monday, Evening: Swimming Carnival at Macrae Baths.
Tuesday. Evening: Social evening at
fire station. Wednesday, Evening: Concert and prize giving at Opera House. The Victoria League has offered the use of its rooms to visiting ladies during the mornings of the week of the conference.
