SUPPLIES FOR EUROPE

BRITAIN’S GENEROSITY (P.A.) WELLINGTON, March 5. "I have heard people criticise Britain for having sent food to France, Belgium and Holland, but I am proud of the fact that in those days our Government decided to send 1,000,000 tons of food to Europe," said Sir Henry French, addressing trade union representatives at the Trades Hall yesterday. People had talked about whav. should be done with food surpluses after the war, but there would be no surpluses all over the world. People had been taken away from the land, with the result that the world’s production to-day was less. Mr. F. P. Walsh, president of the Wellington Trades Council, welcoming Sir Henry French, asked him to convey the greetings of the Labour movement in New Zealand to their friends in Britain “We will put our words into deeds and will repeat the splendid war record in which we workers of New Zealand take such just pride," said Mr. Walsh.
