TE KARAKA SCHEME DISTRICT ZONES ARRANGED At a further meeting of the Te Karaka committee set up to arrange for additional food supplies for the British people it was decided that the districshould' be divided into zones for purposes of the appeal. and the following persons asked to assist: — Puha.—Messrs. A. H. W. Thompson and George Brown. Kanakanaia. —The Misses Orr and Mr F. G. Bellerby. Kaitaratahi—Mrs. Fuller. Otoko.—Mr. G. O. Maloy.. Matawai. —Mrs. C. V. Smith. The treasurer reported that there were already 35 subscribers to the scheme, with every prospect of an increase in number, and the buying committee was authorised to spend £2O for March, the goods to be dispatched as soon as possible. . . The general principle that all incidental expenses should be met by the individual members of the committee was agreed on. Tn this way the people of the district would be assured that 100 per cent of their donations would be snent on actual supplies. After some discussion on methods of collecting fats, it was resolved to ask Mr. J. D. Clark for advice on the collecting, rendering down, and packing of cooking fats. , , ~ The secretary was instructed to write to the High Commissioner’s office asking for the facilities offered by the British Government under the scheme and to notify the dispatch of the first consignment early in March. This will be sent through the Colwyn Bay Food Allocation Centre, North Wales, and the Rev. W. G. Bird will communicate with the vicar of Benwell to arrange for its distribution.
