GRAVE DISQUIET

PUBLIC SERVANTS SALARY RISE DELAY (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Jan. 18. Commenting on an Auckland message whicn stated that public servants were dissatisfied over the Government’s delay regarding the recommendations of the consultative committee which dealt with salaries last year, Mr. J. Turnbull, general secretary. of the New Zealand Public Service Association, said that the dissatisfaction was by no means confined to the Auckland district. In recent tours by Mr. J. K. Hunn, the president of the association, and himself, Mr. Turnbull said that they had been inundated with inquiries as to what the Government was doing in respect of the consultative committee's report, and it was quite clear that there was grave disquiet at the delay. The Wellington executive appreciated the fact that the Government must give the recommendation careful consideration, but considered the welfare of the Government’s employees of sufficient importance to warrant its being given priority. The adequacy of the forthcoming re-grading depended entirely on whether or how soon the Government adopted the recommendations of the committee and the unexplained delay gave no cause for optimism,
