YEAR’S RECORD EARNINGS (9 a.m.) FORT WORTH (Texas), Dec. 17. Byron Nelson ended the year by gaining his nineteenth tournament victory by winning the Fort Worth open championship with an aggregate of 273. 11 under par. It was Nelson's first competition appearance after two months’ vacation.
There was never a doubt about the winner after Nelson finished the third round in 66 and then played the final round of 70. Jimmie Demaret was seeond with 2SI and McSpndcn third with 282. Nelson's win brought his earnings to the record of 66,600 dollars for the year.
