On the resumption of the sitting of the No. 2 Licensing Authority in Wairoa, Mr. P. Skoglund announced that he would not grant the transfer of the taxi license from the estate of the late Private L. A. Mclver to J. Saba, and Mr. C. V. Chamberlain, who appeared for the applicant, announced his intention of appealing against this decision. In the meantime, Saba is to carry on operating the license as before until the authority reaches a decision as to whom it will be issued. There .-are three other returned men interested in the allocation of this license. Miss M. Foley. Wellington, is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. Foley, Wairoa.

The death occurred in Wairoa early on Saturday evening of Doreen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. Lewis, Wairoa. Miss Lewis, whe had been ill for some time, was 17 years of age and was very popular with the younger folk of Wairoa. This is the necond bereavement Mr. and Mrs. Lewis have suffered, another daughter having passed away early in October last.
