MURPHY BEATS CLARKE
BOUT ENDS IN 9TH ROUND
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Dec. 18. Bos Murphy, the Hutt Valley welterweight, beat Bobby Clarke, the Australian middleweight, by a technical knock-out in the ninth round at the Wellington Town Hall last night. Murphy did the leading and for the greater part of the journey caused the Australian to keep up a nimble side-step. In the eighth round both men took counts of nine, the results of left rips to the body. Murphy made his run in the ninth round and swarmed all over Clarke, who at last went down with the savage left t rip to the body. He was so palpably unable to continue that the referee, Mr. Phin Stone, stepped in and awarded the bout to Murphy.
