CHILDREN’S PICNIC

HENI MATEROA INN FES

For 22 children of the He:. .ateroa Children’s Home Sunday was a most happy occasion, for they were the guests of the Gisborne Junior Chamber of Commerce at a Christmas picnic. The party, which also included members, their wives and children, travelled to Okitu Creek, on Wainui Bench, which made a pleasant setting for the event. Ice creams and soft, drinks were presented to the children, who were also treated to an excellent picnic luncheon and afternoon tea by the hosts and other willing helpers. During the morning and the afternoon games of football, rounders and basketball were played by the children. The sea was a popular attraction and swimming in the surf was greatly enjoyed, as particularly were rides on surf skiis. which were made possible through the kindness of the surf club Several closely-contested races for the boys and girls were held and as the finale to an enjoyable day an exciting treasure hunt was held by the kiddies.

The organisers extended their thanks to those people and children of Gisborne who donated spare toys for the prizes in the running competitions and for the treasure hunt, and still leave sufficient for Father Chrism.is to be well loaded when he visits the heme next Monday night. Thanks were aAo extended to the lady helpers and all others whose assistance* made the picnic the success it was.
