AMERICAN SOLDIERS

(9 a.m.) RUGBY, June 28. ’Field Marshal Montgomery presented 240 British awards to American soldiers at a special ceremony before an American guard of honour at' Wiesbaden, says a correspondent. All the recipients came from combat units and ranged from Major-General Robert Frederick, commander of the famous 45th American Infantry Division, who was awarded the D. 5.0., to private soldiers. The awards included 12 D.S.O.’s, dozens of M-C.’s, D.C.M.’s and M.M.’s. The recipients had been in the thickest of the fighting since D-day and many had distinguished themselves in the bitter battles in the Siegfried Line and Rhine crossings, General Frederick, in particular, being prominent in battles for Asschaffenburg, Nuremburg and Munich. General O. Bradley, 1 commarider of the American 12th Army Group, was present at the ceremony.
