NAZI ‘KITE FLYING’
RUMOURS OF CHANGES GERMAN GOVERNMENT REMOVAL~~TO SOUTH LONDON, Feb. 7. The latest rumour in circulation in neutral capitals regarding the political situation in Germany is a report published in the Stockholm newspaper Aftonbladet that the reorganisation of the German Government is imminent, in which Hitler would give up the title of Fuehrer and become President of the Reich, with Herr von Papen as Chancellor.
The Associated Press correspondent in Stockholm says that this report, which is stated to have emanated from German circles in Stockholm, has all the earmarks of a German trial balloon designed to sound out Allied reaction as to whether such a reorganised Government would have any chance of suing for an armistice. The Aftonbladet, again quoting German circles in Stockholm, publishes another report declaring that Germany’s central administration will be secretly moved to southern Germany, probably Dresden, but the people generally will, be encouraged to believe that the Government is remaining to the last in Berlin. Only a small “window” Government would remain in Berlin, including the greater part of the Propaganda Department.
