ENEMY SHIPS BOMBED
BONIN ISLES AREA (10 a.m.) WASHINGTON. Feb. 8. A communique issued by Admiral Nimitz, Commander-in-Chief of the Pacific Ocean Area, says that Mitchells attacked shipping oil' the Bonin and Volcano Islands on Wednesday night. A large ship in a convoy northward of the Volcanos was hit and another in a convoy north of the Bonins was set on fire. Liberators bombed barracks and other installations on Chichi Jima and Ototo Jima in the Bonins and also an enemy base at Kataoka on Shimushu Island in the Kuriles.
