“MEAT-EASIES” IN U.S.

BLACK MARKET SERVICE (9 a.m.) NEW YORK. Feb. 7

The president of the Society of Restauranteurs announced that more than 1000 “meat-easies” are operating in the city, serving black-market beef steaks and roast beef.

The “meat-easies” operate only on Mondays, which has been decreed meatless by the Mayor of New York, Mr. F. 11. La Guardia.

Yesterday. New York's first meatless Monday, 200 butchers carrying knives, steels' and choppers, marched to the City Hall to demand employment on their compulsory “off” days. They said they should be allowed to work in Army meat-boning plants. City Hall officials told them work would be ready for them on February 19.
