GISBORNE FIGURES ■ *t v / i BIG DECEMBER TOTAL Last year proved an exceedingly pood one for sunshine at Gisborne, and. compared with the totals for the past few years, die yield last year created a record i.y a substantial margin. No fewer than 2432.il hours of bright sunshine were registered during the past 12 months and for (he previous two years the totals wore 2240.9 hours in 1943 and 2233.9 hours in 1942, just under 200 hours less than last year. In 1942 Gisborne held sixth place in the Dominion list of sunshine totals. From present indications a much better result can be expected from last year's figure when the Dominion list is collated. The highest monthly total occurred last month when 282.1 hours of bright sunshine were registered. This recording was an extremely high one. being 23 hours better than December. 1943, when 259.1 hours registered was considered to be very big. January last year recorded the second highest total, 253.8 hours. The minimum recording was made in July, when 131.9 hours were experienced. This was the only winter month with' such a low total, the remaining months all recording well over 30 hours more. Monthly totals were: January, 253.8 hours; February, 204.6 hours; March. 168 hours; April, 169.4 hours; May. 178 hours; June; 193.4 hours; July. .131.9 hours; August, 195.9 hours; September, 188.7 hours; October, 218.5 hours; November. 248.6 hours: December. 282.1 hours; total. 2432.9 hours;
