CULTIVATED LAND
INCREASE IN RUSSIA WOMEN'S ACTIVE PART LONDON, April 9. It is' officially announced in Moscow that the Soviet Union has decided to increase the total acreage of cultivated land by Hi,000,000 acres compared with. 1942. The Government has called on the farmers to increase cultivation grainlands by 9,750,000 acres. Russian, women will largely handle tho additional acreage. Fourteen thousand women before the war were heads of collective) farms and over 40,000 were sectional superintendents. Over 2,000,000 women last' winter took, agricultural training . courses. The great land expansion has been eastward. The Russian Govemrneilt intends, to prevent a repetition of tlie catastrophic drop in agriculture which occurred after the last war, bringing famine.
