NO SATURDAY BUSES
COUNTRY SERVICES GISBORNE DISTRICT Notice lias been received by omnibus owners in the Gisborne district that from now on there is to be no Saturday running. This drastic curtailment follows the Government’s policy of cutting down services everywhere with a view to conserving petrol and rubber, more particularly the latter, but judging by a statement made by the proprietor of one of the largest interests in the Gisborne district Gisborne has not been affected as much as some other services. In some oilier places, he said, a full 25 per cent cut had been made in the running of the services, while the Gisborne district cut amounted to only one-sixth of the past timetable. The municipal buses have not been affected by the present restriction in country services. The town clerk, Mr. W. M. Jenkins, stated to-day that the cuts made in the municipal services previously had been substantial, and the council had been informed that in the meantime no further curtailments would be necessary.
