HOGGET RATES RISE

STORTFORD LODGE SALE (0.C.) HASTINGS, this day. A strong demand was shown for . hoggets at the Stortford Lodge stock sale yesterday, when values advanced Is to Is 6d a head to fully recover the check in the market last week. Breeding ewes further improved in value despite the mixed quality on offer. The market was not tested for wethers. The first of the season's ewes with lambs were on oiler. The yarding of 1500 head comprised hoggets and in-lamb owes. Although the selling was followed by only a small attendance competition was very keen. Outside interests were active for all classes of hoggets. Wether hoggets, exceptionally well grown, well woolled and in fat and forward condition sold at 25s and extra well conditioned ewe hoggets to 275. Four-tooth to five year ewes, mostly young, Southdown rams, brought 25s 4d and medium-grown two-tooth ewes, Romney rams March 24. reached 265. A firm market ruled for beef for a yarding of 300 head. Exceptional quality heifers sold to £l2 18s 6r, other well-finished pens making to i'll Is. Heavy prime cows made i'S 16s to £lO 3s 6d, which averaged better than works rates.
