FORMOSA BOMBED
AMERICAN RAIDERS BATTLE FOR LINCHWAN (2.15 p.m.) CHUNGKING, Aug. 12. The United Press correspondent reports that Allied planes, presumably American, bombed Formosa to-day. A communique from Major-General Stilwell’s headquarters says that American planes ibombed the Japanese aerodrome at Nanchang and shot down one enemy plane and probably another. They scored hits on the airfield and one directly on a hangar. The Chinese High Command reports continued fighting around Lirichwan. Japanese attacks in the western suburbs were repulsed. The Japanese garrison at Chuhsien has received 2000 reinforcements and has pushed northward under cover of planes. They are now engaged by the Chinese.
