Burial of Blacklist! The burial of blacklist! recently stranded at Opoutama cost the Wairoa Harbour Board £44 6s sd. The board decided yesterday to claim a refund from the Marine Department. A skeleton has been kept for identification by the director of the Dominion Museum.

Aerodrome Inadvisable , Recently the Wairoa Harbour Board sought the opinions of the Wairoa County Council and Wairoa Borough Council as to the construction of n.i aerodrome at Wairoa. Both bodies have replied that in their opinion it is inadvisable to proceed with the scheme at present.

Beach Erosion Erosion of the Waikanae Beach with a threat to plantations on the loreshore was reported; to the Gisborne Borough Council last night by the borough engineer, Mr. G. F. Clapcott, who stated that the beach had eroded to within Ift. of a plantation. The matter was referred to the town clerk for an inquiry. Tree Planting' Requested A request to have trees planted in front of his property in Childers road was made to the Gisborne Borough Council last night by Mr. H. Smith, who undertook to take care of the trees and the frontage surrounding them in Childers road. The council decided to provide a few low-growing shrubs for Mr. Smith to plant. Change of Tenancy A request by Messrs T. A. N. Corson and G. H. Seeats that their lease of the Park Domain property should be terminated was referred recently to the Minister of Lands by the Makaraka Domain Board, which comprises members of the Gisborne Borough Council. At a meeting of the board last night, a letter was read from the Minister stating that a proposed change of the tenancy to Mr. Edward Fitzgerald was being looked into. Decree Nisi Granted A decree nisi, to be moved absolute after three months, was granted by Mr. Justice Johnston in the Supreme Court in Gisborne to-day, when Thomas William Henry Lighton (Mr. J. D. Kinder), sought a divorce from Jessie Ileen Lighton on the grounds of, separation. The petitioner stated in evidence,that he and the respondent were married in Auckland in 1931, and lived in Gisborne. There were no children of the marriage. In 1935 they entered into a separation agreement, his wife going to live in Auckland. Eric McCullouch gave corroborative evidence. Harbour Boards' Difficulties Difficulties facing minor harbour boards were discussed at,yesterday's quarterly meeting of the Wairoa Harbour Board, when the chairman, Mr. J. Corkill, declared that in the early days, boards got themselves into debt in feeding the people and fanning the country. Those liabilities had to bo met. It was not fair, he said, that district products should be sent hundreds of miles by rail when the ports were handy. The board decided io write to the secretary of the Harbours’ Association stating that the board wished .to be associated with the minor board in an endeavour to secure recompense from the Government. Soldiers’ Meals An allegation that soldiers travelling by railway, although given 2s fid each for their lunch, had to go without because all refreshment places were closed to them and that until they touched Wairoa no attempt Was made to give them a meal, is contained in a letter to the secretary of the Wairoa W.W.S.A., Miss D.
