AMERICAN BATTALION SERVICE OVERSEAS (9.30 a.m.) SAN FRANCISCO, July 3. Mr. Harry Bridges, the Australianborn labour leader, Is organising a longshoremen’s battalion, which is ready to serve with the army at any United Nations’ port in the world, the principal purpose of which will be to speed up the turning round of ships in port. Technically-trained' longshoremen, drawn largely from San Francisco, will be commissioned to command the battalion. Mr. Bridges has been granted an additional fortnight's postponement by the Court of Appeal on the hearing of the deportation order against him.
