NIGHT FIGHTER’S TOLL
RAIDERS OVER MALTA HIGH PERCENTAGE LOST (British Official Wireless.) (10.30 a.m.) RUGBY, July 3. Malta’s night fighter unit, which was formed last November, has definitely destroyed 31 enemy bombers and damaged many others. It has been reckoned that of every 10 bombers to fly over Malta at night, eight are illuminated by searchlights and four are brought down by night fighters. Considerable successes have also been gained by night fighters overenemy airfields in Sicily. Many bombers setting off to attack Malta or returning from the island have been destroyed over their own airfields. One pilot shot down three bombers in an hour. Last week seven bombers were destroyed.
