FLYING CROSS AWARDS
DOMINION PILOTS (9.30 a.m.) LONDON, June 30. The D.F.C. .has been awarded •to Pilot-Officer Gordon William 1 Brewer, and Acting Flight-Lieu.tenant Geoffrey Charles Pannell. of Christchurch. both of the Royal New Zealand Air Force. The citations stale that PilotOfficer Brewer in June, 1942, received a shrapnel wound in the leg making .it useless, while raiding the Dukirk docks. Pilot-Officer Brewer’s Boston was hit several times, the hydraulic system and brakes being put out of action. Nevertheless, Pilot-Officer Brewer bombed the target successfully, maintained formation during the return flight and landed without damage. FlightLieutenant Pannell in October, 1941. was leading an air escort provided for an air sea rescue operation Flight-Lieutenant Pannell protected the rescue craft, when enemy planes attacked and shot down one. 1-Ie has completed many operational sorties and patrols.
