CEBU CITY ABLAZE
IN JAPANESE HANDS FIGHTING IN PHILIPPINES (11.30 a.m.) WASHINGTON, April 19. Cebu City is understood to be in enemy hands, states a War Department communique. “The bombardment and shelling of Corregidor continued throughout Friday, although somewhat reduced in intensity and little damage was done. The guns from the forts silenced several enemy batteries and blasted roads and bridges on the Bataan Peninsula, disrupting communications,” states the communique.
“Reports from Cebu indicate that Cebu City is in enemy hands and is reported to be burning. Fierce fighting is continuing in' the vicinity. The hostile forces which landed on the island of Panay are being vigorously opposed. There is nothing to report in other areas.
