Mrs. L. Coop, Riverside road, and Mrs. C. E. Matthews, Waerenga-o-kuri, are staying with Mrs. R. P. Murphy at Wainui Beach.. Misses Betty Sharp and Marjorie Haase, of the staff of the Wellington Hospital, are visiting the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sharp, Wairoa. Mr. and Mrs. S. B. Monde, Pehiri, were the guests of the latter's parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. E. Gillingham, Waerenga-o-kuri, for Christmas. Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Spence, Tiniroto, are staying with the latter's parents, Mr; and Mrs. A. Trevor Coleman. at Wainui Beach.

Pilot-Officer J. N. Williams is returning to Whenuapai to-morrow after a brief visit to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. 11. B. Williams, Turihaua station.

Miss J. Perry, of the Women's Auxiliary Air Force, is returning to Levin to-morrow after a brief visit to her mother, Mrs. L. 11. Perry, Wainui Beach.

Miss E. E. Campbell, of the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force, is returning to Ohakea, Palmerston North, to-morrow after spending Christmas with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. Campbell, Awapuni road. Engagement

Ccwan-Muir.—An engagement is announced between Pilot-Officer L. L. (Pip) Cowan, Royal New Zealand Air Force, eldest son. of Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Cowan, Makarori, Gisborne, and Sheila, eldest daughter of LieutenantColonel and Mrs. A. S. Muir, Gisborne. Soldiers’ Sewing- Circle Recently the members of the Victoria League Soldiers’ Sewing Circle have been working very hard to complete a three months’ quota of Government liussifs, and at the final meeting for the year, held in the Y.M.C.A. rooms, the tea hostesses, Mesdames I. Stephenson and H. H. De Costa, entertained the members at afternoon tea. The opportunity was taken to make a presentation to th convener, Mrs. P. Hockley, as a tangible tribute of the members’ appreciation of her services to the circle. Mesdames De Costa and Stephenson also were asked to accept gifts in recognition of their work during the past year.
