GISBORNE SUCCESSES

Last month public service examinations in shorthand and typing were conducted in Gisborne and t'.e results have come to hand now. These examinations serve as entrance examinations for shorthand-typists into the public service and 19 Gisborne candidates passed the tests. Of these, nine were pupils of the GisbPrne High School, one, Miss S. E. Saunders, securing the only pass in the senior section. The other eight, who secured passes in the junior section, were Misses K. M. Dominey, S. V. Moeau, M. H. V. Hope, E. A. Clarke. W. C. Milroy, M. I McCallum, L. Mills and L. T. Babbington. A Convent pupil, Miss J. N. McCarthy, secured a credit pass in the junior section, while three other Convent pupils, Misses N. M. Murphy, E. M. Gavin and E. J. Whelan, gained passes in the junior section. Three evening class pupils, Misses I. J. Rigney, O. Nelson and R. Vita, secured passes in the junior section, while Misses S. R. Omundsen and R. F. Dorf were also successful candidates.

Pitman’s certificate for shorthand speed was gained by a number c-f Gisborne High School pupils, the speeds ranging from 110 words per minute to 50 words per minute. The •successful pupils were: Shirley Saunders, 110 words per minute; Vera Hope, Kathleen Dominey, Sophie Moeau, Winipere Milroy, Lorna Mills, Edna Birrell, Ruth Sutherland, and Margaret McCallum. 80 words per minute; Gloria Courtney, 70 words per minute; Eileen Scragg and Shirley O'Meara, t!0 words per minute; Leah I-loulahan, Molly Scott, Alice Irving, ‘ Noin McGregor, Peggy Bennett, Mary McDermott and Joan Moore, 50 words per minute.
