DEATH AT EIGHTY
The death has occurred in Auckland of Mrs. Fanny Rogers Brooke, wife of the late Rev. T. G. Brooke former general secretary of the home mission department of the Methodist Church of New Zealand. Mrs. Brooke, who was the second daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Wab.v, of Southbridg'e, Canterbury, and arrived from England with her parents by the ship Geenmark 77 years ago. The family was among the pioneers who climbed over the Port Hills from Lyttelton and down the track which is now known as the Bridle Path on to the Canterbury plains.
Mr. Charles John Stone, who wan the eldest son of the first male child born in Auckland, died recently at the age of 75.' His .father, Mr. C. B. Stone, owned a fleet of sailing ships and Mr. Stone, who was a very keen yachtsman, went to sea in the vessels Mr. Stone was employed in the Public Service for 25 years and in 1918 joined the staff of the Union Steam Ship Company. He retired in 1928.
