OBITUARY
MR. T. KOERA TAREHA One of Hawke’s Bay’s best-known chiefs, Mr. Te Koera (Joe) Tarclia. died at the Napier Public 110 ..Dital on Saturday at the age of 88. An elder brother of the late Kurttno Tareha, he was the last in line of the original chief of the Ngatikahungunus, being one of the last survivors of the old generation. He was the eldest son of Tareha Te Moananui, a leading Hawke’s Bay chief and the first Maori member of the New Zealand Parliament. Like his father, the late Mr. Tareha was a royalist and for many years was a member of the Napier Rifles under the command of the late Major Chicken. He was an all-round athlete. He is survived by his third wife, one son, Mr. Tuiri (Tweedie) Tareha, Waiohiki, and two daughters, Mrs. J. Mapu, Waiohiki, and Mrs. L Gillies, Waimarama.
