UNION OF CHURCHES

METHODIST APPROVAL / , CONFERENCE SOUGHT (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Approval of the movement towards a union of the Presbyterian, Congregational and Methodist Churches of New Zealand was expressed by the North Canterbury Methodist Synod yesterday when the following motions were passed:—

“That this synod again expresses its confidence that a union of the Presbyterian, Congregational and Methodist Churches of New Zealand would be for the glory of God and the more effective promotion of their work in the community, and without expressing an opinion upon the basis to be submitted first to a conference, trusts that such a union will be attained in the near future.”

“That it be a recommendation to the conference that a basis be submitted, not only to synods, but also to the September quarterly meetings and that the voting thereat, for, against and neutral, be reported to the synods.”
