NAZI PLANE DOWNED
ATTACK ON BOMBERS BATTLE OVER LIBYA (British Official Wireless.) Reed. 11.30 a.m. RUGBY, Nov. 19. The fate of a Messerschmitt _ 10Si which attacked a flight of Americanbuilt Maryland bombers returning from a raid on Cyrenaica, is described by the Air Ministry news service. Coming down against the sun, the German aircraft raked the flight with cannon and machine-guns and then singled out one Maryland for an attack. The German pilot got so close in behind that streams of bullets from his aircraft were .meeting in front oi the Maryland as it put its nose down to gain speed. Suddenly a sharp burst of fire came from the Maryland and the Messerschmitt began a crazy spiral downwards until it hit the sea. Flying over Gambut recently in relays, naval aircraft dropped sticks of bombs right among the enemy aircraft at a dispersal point, setting two alight and probably damaging others.
