CALL TO BERLIN
“ENDURE THE CRISIS” HARD TIMES ADMITTED TOLL OF AIR RAIDERS Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (British Official Wireless.) Reed. 11.30 a.m. RUGBY. Oct. 30. A more than usually frank statement of the conditions in Germany was contained in an appeal to Berliners by the Minister of Propaganda, Dr. Goebbels, in which he said, according to a Zurich Press message: “We must pull together if we want Berlin to remain the capital of Germany. Other large towns have not had 'an easy time. Whatever happens, we must endure the crisis. As your gauleiter knows, you have had a hard time. You women often queue up at provision shbps for many hours. Sometimes there is no beer or cigarettes. "Owing to the shortage of workers who are in the forces, you make your own coal transports. Many nights are spent in aid-raid cellars and often after only two hours’ sleep you are off again to hard work. This is the same as in many other German towns, but in Some districts it is even worse.” The Berlin radio stated that the German air-raid casualties during the last six months were 2400 killed and 5311 injured.
