Industry’s Man-power
The statement that 100,000 workers had been withdrawn from industry in New Zealand as a result of the war is made in the, annual report of the Wellington Builders’ and Contractors’ Industrial Union of Employers. “This substantial withdrawal,” the report comments, “may create a demand for labour sufficient to absorb any unemployment that might have existed in peace times,' and, in fact, als6 has created a very serious shortage in the labour markets.”
