WILL NOT CEASE
WARTIME CONTROLS , PROFITS AND PRICES MR. MENZIES’ OPINION (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. Aug. 20, 2 p.m.) SYDNEY, Aug. 20. The conviction that the wartime controls now being exercised by 'theFederal Government wouid continue to operate after the war was expressed by the Prime Minister, Mr. R. G. Menzies, in a speech to 300 businessmen who entertained him at dinner. “In tfie last two years you have seen the introduction of profits control and price regulation.” he said. “Now departments of the Government have laid hands on private enterprise and policies have been pursued designed to affect the cost of living ana interest rates. I hope that no one will imagine that these just and equitable things that nave been done during the war will cease when peace has been won. They will not. “This country has been learning new things during the war—new things about human relations and the responsibilities of government and the responsibilities of those who are ( masters of men. What we have been, doing, however imperfectly, is laying the foundations of the new order here and now, while the war is going on.”
