MURIWAI UNIT

VISIT OF COMMANDER (Herald Correspondent) The visit of Mr. R. Graham, commander of the Cook County Battalion of the Home Guard, to the parade of the Muriwai unit, held at the Muriwai parade ground on Sunday, was of great interest to those in attendance. 'Mr. Graham, in addressing the guardsmen, complimented the movement on its efficiency and went on to give some forecast of the Home Guard in the near future. Attendance at scheduled parades and the maintaining of interest that had been displayed were the main essentials. The day’s training opened with physical exercises, under the direction of Corporal Ching, for the whole unit. Rifle exercises and training in firing positions were given then by Ser-geant-Major Cox. After the luncheon interval Sergeant Romminger took the unit for section leading, advance under fire, and deployment. The unit committee also met on the parade ground. Accounts were passed for payment and the chairman, Mr. C. J. Cox, reported having received £ls 10s 7d from the Bartletts section of the unit. This handsome donation to the unit funds represents the proceeds from a dance held at Bartlett* recently with the object of assisting the unit. Evening classes will be held this week at Bartletts on Tuesday and at Muriwai on Friday, while the next unit parade will be on August 31 at Muriwai.
