PIONEER OF 98 PASSES
The death has occurred in Auckland, at the age of 98, of Mrs. Bertha Mcßae, who, with her husband, was a pioneer settlor in Marlborough. Three years ago Mrs. Mcßae made her first aeroplane flight, when she travelled to Palmerston North. Mrs. Mcßae’s father was Captain Richard Scott, whose brig Spray was trading across the Tasman a century ago. She was 12 years old when her family settled at Nelson. At 16 she was married to Mr. Philip Roderick Mcßae, and they lived at Malborough for about 25 years.
Advice has been received in Hamilton of thq death at Kurmond, Kurrajong Heights, New South Wales, of Mr. Walter M. George, aged 72. Mr. George was a well-known entertainer and producer, and spent most of his life on the stage., He made many fours of England. Australia and New Zealand, and travelled with his own costume comedy 'and vaudeville companies in Ne\y Zealand. Many NeW Zealand soldiers of the 1914-18 war will regret to learn of the death in England of Miss E. (Nell) Stuckey, M.8.E., Known to all the patients and staff of the Walton-on-Thames Military Hospital as’ the “0.C.” Miss Stuckey was a New Zealander by birth, though living in England when war broke out in 1914. Anxious to do her utmost for the cause, she joined one of the Voluntary Aid Detachments and in due course was placed in charge ’ of the annexe kitchen at Walton hospital. At the end of the war she was awarded the M.8.E., in recognition of her services.
