WOMEN NEGLECTED

HAMILTON ALLEGATIONS A complaint that the female inmates of the Old People’s Home at' the Waikato Hospital were being neglected was made by Mrs. H. C. Ross at a meeting of the Waikato Hospital Board. Mrs. Ross said the old women had no privacy and received little consideration. There were no locks to their lockers and a good deal of pilfering went on. “It is a pure -case of cold charity,” added the speaker. The medical superintendent, Dr. H. L. Gould, said the position was very difficult. The proportion of female and male inmates was unbalanced, and it was not easy to allot the accommodation available. It would be far preferable if the women were housed away from the hospital altogether. The position would be relieved when the proposed new infirmary, was erected. A committee consisting of Mrs. Ross and Messrs. F. Findlay and G. Smith was elected to consult with the medical superintendent to improve the position.
