MEAT PRICE ORDER

BUTCHERS’ OBJECTIONS HEARING BY TRIBUNAL (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Commenting that it had noted from announcements in the press of the Dominion that representatives of the Master Butchers’ Federation were conferring in Wellington, with a view to submitting counter-proposals following the recent issue of the price order by the Price Investigation Tribunal, fixing the maximum prices at which meat may be sold by retailers, the tribunal stated that it had accorded a hearing to a deputation from the federation on Wednesday, when comments and suggested amendments in the matter of meat prices were submitted. Replying to the deputation, the tribunal expressed its appreciation of the restrained and exhaustive manner in which the representations had been made. It stated that it recognised that the matter was a very difficult and complicated one, and it pointed out that no pains had been spared to make the price order as fair and as reasonable as possible, while, at tjie same time, paying full regard to the importance of stabilising the price of meat. The representations would, the tribunal added, be carefully' studied and a subsequent reply would be given to the federation. There was one thing, however, the tribunal desired to emphasise, namely, that the price order was in existence and must be carefully adhered to by all butchers and, it added, it was hoped ‘there would be no complaints that the * price order had not been obeyed.
