SURPLUS BUTTER DISPOSAL BY AUSTRALIA A number of important decisions regarding the disposal of Australia’s surplus butter to be produced in the 1941-1942 season have been made by the Commonwealth Dairy Produce Control Committee. Beeausce of the increase in the cheese contract price it was estimated that the average value for 1941-42 would be some shillings in advance of the 1940-41 prices. On the contrary butter values would decline in 1941-42, An assurance would be given by the industry that manufacturers would be guaranteed against individual loss by having extensions and plant provided by them taken over by the committee on the basis of cost less depreciation in the e\;ent of a slum)) occurring during the war or within a period of two years after the war. A fund would be provided by a charge on contract butter for the year 1941-42. It had been recognised that, manufacturers and suppliers meeting the change-over to cheese must be assured of equitable treatment, and arrangements had been made to ensure this. Loans would be made to the factories on the guarantee of the Commonwealth Government. DAIRY CLEARING SALE A sale of dairy stock was held by Messrs. Common, Shelton and Company, Limited, on account of the estate of the late'Mr. Thomas Harding at Mangapapa yesterday, and although heavy showers interfered with the attendance satisfactory prices resulted. Cows sold up to £0 15s, springing heifers to £5 10s and yearling heifers to £4 Ids. A quantity of hay was sold at 2s Od a bale.
